Scientific Computing and Biocomputing

Biocomputing, with sub-areas like Systems Biology and Computational Neuroscience, is a rapidly developing field. In this specialisation, the student will acquire knowledge and skills about model construction and simulation of these using specialised software tools. In this regard, he or she will learn about the types of differential equations encountered and the numerical methods used for solving these. The student may also learn about parallel implementation and simulation on high-performance computers. Models encountered include biochemical reactions, the biophysics of the cell, and simulation of networks of neurons. Carrier prospects for graduates include research and development both in academia and industry.
